by Jan W., 8D

How is coronavirus changing communication among people? Why do many teens still prefer face-to-face communication? Can you think of situations when online communication is better? Do you think adults or elderly people prefer face-to-face communication? Why?

Why do many teens still prefer face-to-face communication?

I observed this is not already true that many teens still prefer face-to-face communication. They aren’t accustomed to that form of communication – they prefer talking through the social media and instant messaging client such as Messenger or WhatsApp.

Our world really wants to free itself from emotions. If we communicate with someone by social media we don’t see his face, emotions, we just see what he wants to show us. This is very dangerous because during such a talking we don’t know exactly what the other person feels. Moreover, we don’t even have an opportunity to check it. Yes, we could say that in real life a lot of people can hide their emotions but to do it they need special abilities. In social media everyone can hide his personality behind the photos

We’ve always got a choice between something that is easy or valuable. These two things never exist together. The choice is: simple communication through the Internet or face-to-face communication.

Do you think adults or elderly people prefer face-to-face communication? Why?

A form of communication is the mark of times. You use the form of communication which is the most popular in times you live. Ask your parents and grandparents – they use various tools of communication.

That’s why it seems to us that elderly people prefer face-to-face communication. This was the best for the times they were born. To sum up , there are the most common ways of communication which were used in the previous century:

• correspondence (writing letters)

• talking on the phone

• face-to-face communication

Elderly people were brought up on the same planet as we are but in a different technological world.

Can you think of situations when online communication is better?

Obviously, in many situations online communication is better. For example, in case of people who live far from each other and they cannot meet in real life. Then communicating through messenger etc. is essential. We also use new technologies during quarantine to take part in lessons at online school.

How is coronavirus changing communication among people?

The answer is very simple: we don’t know yet. We have limited our interpersonal contacts so far. Instead of communicating with a lot of people at work or school, we intensely communicate with your relatives. Would it make our relations stronger and better quality? Only time will tell.
